A Day With Mousse is a 2024 New York Times Best Children's Book of the Year

Claire Lebourg’s A Day With Mousse (tr. Sophie Lewis) is one of twelve New York Times Best Children’s Books of the Year.

Jennifer Krauss, children’s book editor at the Book Review, writes that “for Mousse, Lebourg’s green-striped titular creature, living happily alone by the sea, every day is full of sweet rituals—like sipping coffee and listening to the radio while watching the tide come in (straight into his living room, where he takes his morning swim)—until one day a walrus named Barnacle washes up and disturbs his solitary bliss."

A Day With Mousse is the first volume in a new series for early readers. Transit’s early readers are published in collectible hardcover editions, and can be enjoyed as read-alouds (4+) and by independent readers (7+).

Claire Lebourg is the author and illustrator of the picture books How Dreadful and Like This, both both translated from the French by Sophie Lewis.

The list in its entirety is up now on The New York Times.
