Lizzie Davis has been promoted to Executive Editor at Transit Books, a newly created position reporting to the publishers. She will be relocating to the San Francisco Bay Area and working out of Transit’s Berkeley office. Prior to joining Transit, Davis spent eight years working for Minneapolis independent publisher Coffee House Press, where she was Senior Editor.

“Transit captured my attention in their early days with their editorial vision and deep commitment to championing international literature,” said Davis. “I’ve been amazed again and again by what they’ve accomplished since. I’m so excited to step into this new role, and to continue working to realize the transformational possibilities of independent publishing alongside them.”

“Lizzie has been an invaluable addition to our team since she joined us last year,” said Transit publisher Adam Levy. “She has a deep understanding of independent press publishing and international literature—both from her experience as an editor and as a translator. She brings an incredible energy and enthusiasm to the press, and we all look forward to seeing her list grow here.”

Davis also has translated prose and poetry from some of the foremost writers at work in the Spanish language, including Juan Cárdenas, Elena Medel, Pilar Fraile, and Daniela Tarazona. Her translations or cotranslations have been nominated for the PEN Translation Prize, the American Book Award, the Kirkus Prize in Nonfiction, and the Dublin Literary Award. Her translation of Juan Cárdenas’s The Devil of the Provinces was longlisted for the National Book Award for Translated Literature.
